In short: Weep holes let moisture out of the wall cavity. We frequently see them blocked or spaced incorrectly on new homes in Morayfield.

Blocked completely

At a recent handover inspection we saw weep holes filled with mortar. This prevents drainage and traps water inside the wall.

No gaps at all

On another build the brickwork was rendered without any weep holes being left open. This stops the cavity from breathing.

Spaced incorrectly

The spacing between openings was too wide on this build. Proper drainage requires holes at regular intervals.

Checklist for inspections

Clear all mortar from holes. Ensure holes are open and spaced according to the QBCC Standards and Tolerances Guide before handover.
